Neighbours
Sitting on the back yard steps
I often thought of Frank
A lovely next door neighbour
But one day my heart just sank
For out upon these steps I saw
His home piled high outside the door
"He's gone to stay with friends" mum said
He didn't even take his bed
All his love mum said, he’d sent
Only years later I heard why he went
He'd been drowning his sorrows buying drink
His beloved wife Mary, had an accident
Hours at her bedside, dear Frank spent
Then one day poor Mary died
I still remember how I cried
That was when Frank took to drink
How sad for him, my heart still sinks
The memories I have from being a kid
Are all the kind things Frank and Mary did
They had no family, it was just those two
I suppose I loved them more than they knew
It was so sad, my emotions were mixed
Perfect neighbours is my memories
I was only a child of six.
