Sycamore
At eleven I went to Sycamore Secondary School for Girls
We had to grow up all of a sudden
No more playing with dolls after school
It was cookery, making rock cakes or pudding
We went into different classes, each bell a new lesson to learn
One day we'd be going to work, Money we'd have to earn
To marry and have a baby, be a housewife was all we wanted to do
But in real life and hard times, not all of your dreams come true
So English, History, Science, P.E., Art and Sewing. I learned what I could
It's only when I'd left school, I realized I'd had it so good
The Teachers were strict in my day
Their knowledge helped you go far
Listen and lear , Oh I never could spell
But I've always had a story to tell
This is out my keep sake tin written many years ag , along with poems when I first started work
which I hope to add to the site
