When I saw a picture of the slipper baths, on the St Ann’s site.
I dug my memories out, and let them see the light. Some sound silly now....but I won’t alter what I've said. The outings to the baths, are still clear in my head. " I'm goin fer a baff " are yo ?” How I often had a laugh...When I went along to the Slipper Baths Under my arm my towel rolled up.., are any friends going I’ll take a look I drop my towel before I'm there.., all screwed up kids don't care Near Northampton Street,..the steps I climb, I’ll soon be in for my "bath time" I go inside among the steam.., now I feel that I could scream Mam will be mad I've been a dope.., when I dropped the towel I lost my soap I ask the man behind the desk...Yes he had a bit that someone left So water ran up to my chin.., not much muck, but crinkly skin In all clean clothes .., I marched back up old Senty, Dad said “ Is there any water left?”.. Yes it's hot, and they've got plenty Happy memories I loved them all It meant such a lot to hear the Attendant call........YOU'RE NEXT! Don't forget to wash your neck and behind your ears ....Jean |
