Doorstep
Neighbours sat on the doorstep
Or they would bring out a chair
Lean on the windowsills
They liked to chat anywhere
They would stand on street corners
Swing on the gate ..... (saying)
Ey up me ducks
Or how yer doing mate!
All friends together
With time for each other
No phone or gadgets in hand
If they aren't 50s or 60s kids
They wouldn't understand
No tablet, I pad or computers we owned
With pennies in hand
We took a walk (to the kiosk phone)
Aww we're all better off now
So I shouldn't moan.
Oh wasn't we Rich
With family, neighbours and friends
When we sat on the doorstep to chat
Another memory from our past
At the time we thought it would last!
