Bonfire night memories
I remember, remember, the fifth of November. With Guy Fawkes ready to burn, We'd all have fireworks, but watch each other’s in turn! Oh years ago when I was young, Bonfire Night was so much fun We collected rubbish for ' OUR ' fire Where I lived on Norland Road, Sofas, chairs, and mattresses, and boxes quite a load! We'd have jacket spuds, mushy peas, after tea we'd call for friends At Holmes Tobacconist we'd buy bonfire toffee, A shilling from our savings card we'd spend We got the fireworks when dad got home... He wouldn't let us hold our own There were Bangers, Catherine wheels Sparklers, Pyramids, and Rockets, A young boy had an accident with bangers in his pocket Our fires burned out through the night Unless there was a storm It was still glowing the next morning, ashes very warm Bonfire Night was over. You wouldn't hear the cry Please can you spare a penny for the Guy? Our Fires were the best |
