I have been amazed at the jobs we all did.
I have my jobs in poems, my first job was FARMERS.
I watched our Queen out of Farmers upstairs windows 1967
I worked at "Farmers "South Parade, my first job when I left school
An assistant on soft furnishings, a tape measure was my tool
I cut and sold the curtains, 36 inches to the yard
I sold rufflet tape and nets, I thought my job was hard !!
But I was very lucky, the Boss asked me to help out
I served behind most counters, I liked to move about.
There was Baby wear, Handbags, Purses of your choice
The girls were under the command of the section buyer's voice .
(Just serve Miss Morley) does the lady need helping out
Hurry along don't hang about
Oh can I help you, Sir or Madam, was my request
With a beaming smile, I was put to the test.
They always seemed to buy something, early morning or late night
We always had a special rule, the customer was always right
Underwear, Materials, Patterns, and Coats, Brollys, Gloves, and Scarfs
Skirts, Jumpers, Haberdashery, Corsets, I'm only telling half.
Mr Dean was the boss, he was proud of his girls, to all of them he'd talk.
That shop was great, it went right down Exchange Walk.
Two Ednas served up dinner, the dining room was small
They did it in three sittings, both Ednas cooked it all.
There was Emily in the sewing room, Viv Turner, Sue Mitchell and me !
Margaret Lancaster, Pat Kenny, in my mind’s eye them all I see .
A Josie, two Lynnes and a Carla,Jean and Freda King,
I could go on and on, remembering everything.
Carol on Jumpers, Barbara on Handbags
Late night on Wednesday, oh how the time drags,
Friday was pay day, my four pounds four shillings,
My job was safe, all the time the till rings.
This wonderful shop was knocked down
And our stock room "The Eight Bells Pub "
OH if I had to go through those three years again,
I was happy so I would
There are names I do not mention, but I remember faces of my friends,
We Clocked in and out together, My memories there's no ends.
