Looking though a few of my old poems, there's one from when I was 10 years old called: MY BUSY CALENDAR January--was the coldest month, we used to get the snow, Sledging on the Coppice Rec is where we used to go February--the nights still dark but in a crowd we'd play, Mam would shout ''stay near the house--don't dare go away'' March -- Mothers Day is getting near, what shall we buy our mum? A nice little ornament “Barber Bullocks'' selling some April -- It's Easter eggs, and extra chocs in store Easter Bonnets and daffodils, who could ask for more . May --Around the May pole, new ribbons for our hair --A new lacy underskirt -----spin round and let it flare June --It's time for holidays, Skegness is the place for me, --We always had a bucket and spade and a paddle in the sea July --We'd just have fun at parks and play out in the street, --A trip to the Pleasure Park was a special treat August--Getting ready for starting back to school, --Listen to the teachers, and don't act like a fool September Join the youth club or Play Centre to learn a game, --It's nice to play in school halls and not out in the rain October--On the crunchy leaves, Goose Fair is on its way, --Save a little money for the rides you have to pay November --Collecting rubbish for the Bonfire on the road --Sofas, chairs and mattresses, and wood we have a load December--I can't wait. Santa Claus is coming soon, --I look out of the window, will he ride by the moon? --Twelve months have passed me by, I’ve aged another year, --But when you are only ten you haven't got a care Jean Morley Taylor 4 Norland Road, off St Ann’s Well Road. |
