Me, Mam and Dad and the caravan we loved
Those little tiny gas lights hung around the caravan With a bed that folded back just for dad and mam We fetched the water and emptied slops Played in the fresh air with new whip and tops We walked for miles without a fuss Enjoying the walk, no getting the bus It was pop and crisps in pub back yards Then back to the van for a game of cards A new painted bucket, a nice red spade It was beach in the morning, sand castles to be made This wonderful life for a holiday of the year No school, no work, we didn't have a care We didn't have lots of money, we didn't need a lot. Our caravans name was Sandra, in a lovely little spot When the holiday was over we'd all aboard a train And into Victoria Station, at last we're home again Dad smiles at Mam, they look at the clock Dads got the cases, Mam’s got the rock We've got a beach ball and shells in a bag This seems to be the best holiday we've had Into our house, it seemed so big to me Our mam put the kettle on for a nice cup of tea I'd never been abroad, so I awaited news To listen where folks went, and pictured all the views Most families have been abroad, I haven’t, but we've had fun And most of my happy memories are here in Nottingham!! PS. We once got our holiday rock from Woolworths, forgetting it had Nottingham printed through it .....It did cause a laugh though I’ve been abroad since .....This was early 60s..........x Jean |
